Prairie Wind Toastmasters

Toastmaster's Testimonial

Mike Briggs
Senior Mining Engineer
The Falkirk Mining Company

I first joined Toastmasters when I moved to Hazen, North Dakota. I looked at it as an opportunity to get to know people from the community as well as to work on my oral presentation skills. I thoroughly enjoyed the meetings. After less than a year, I moved to Bismarck and was unable to find a club that would fit my schedule. Many years later, it was great to have the chance to take part in Toastmasters with the organization of the Prairie Winds club at Great River Energy's Coal Creek Station.

Speaking in front of people is often acknowledged as the number one fear of most people (fear of dying is number two). Toastmasters gives a person the opportunity to take part in a structured program that will help him/her work to improve their speaking skills. The audience is non-threatening and always ready to offer helpful advice. Participants in the program run the gamut from those that are new to public speaking, to those that are quite adept, so participants have the ability to observe the speaking style of others. I have yet to leave a Toastmasters meeting without a smile on my face.
