Prairie Wind Toastmasters achieves Distinguished Club status (July 2008)
Prairie Wind Toastmasters – in its first year – achieved Distinguished Club Status.
In order to be a Distinguished Club, Prairie Wind Toastmasters was challenged to meet a minimum of five goals. They were:
-
Two new Competent Communicators.
-
One new Competent Leader.
-
All officers were trained.
-
Four new members.
-
Submitted officers list on time.
Toastmasters conducts the Distinguished Club program to help clubs accomplish learning goals for its members. This is done through: education – helping members learn speaking and leadership skills, and membership – continually bringing in new members to combat a natural turnover, to provide a stronger leadership base, and to bring a flow of fresh, new ideas and personalities.
Congratulations – and thanks everyone for your support to make this happen!
Laning receives Toastmaster’s Competent Communicator certification (May 2008)
The first from the Prairie Wind Toastmasters club
Derek Laning, generation engineer, Stanton Station, is the first individual to earn the Competent Communicator (CC) certification from the Prairie Wind Toastmasters Club.
The competent communicator certification is achieved after a member completes the competent communication manual which helps club members prepare and present an effective speech. The manual is organized into 10 separate projects, each with its own individual focus. It is an effective tool in providing guidelines for members to use as they prepare their speeches.
Prairie Wind Toastmasters was started by Great River Energy in January 2007. The club is open to Great River Energy employees and members of other neighboring businesses and communities. The club meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at Coal Creek Station and welcomes new membership at any time.
Congratulations Derek!
